MEMBERS (or ASSOCIATES)
The Institution's power lies with its members. Members nominate and elect the members of the Board of Directors through elections that are held electronically.

Members participate in different activities, such as: mailing lists and work groups, where policies are discussed that are later taken to the Public Policy Forum, as well as the nomination and election of the Public Forum Moderator and the representatives to ASO's Address Council. Participation in these activities is also open to non-members.

LACNIC membership is granted automatically to those organizations that receive resources directly from LACNIC. There are different member categories and levels established according to the size of the address space administered by each organization.
LACNIC membership is also available for any individual or organization that requests being accepted as a member and pays membership fees.
 
MEMBER ASSEMBLY
This is the institution's ruling body.
Ordinary General Assembly. This Assembly meets once yearly. It discusses issues relating to the management of LACNIC, approves balance sheets, expenditure reports, budget execution and other indicators of the institution's management.

Extraordinary General Assembly. This Assembly may be summoned at any time the Board of Directors deems it necessary, or at the request of the Control Organ, the Electoral Commission or 5% of the voting members. It discusses and approves changes to the bylaws or any other issue that requires summoning this Assembly.

The Board of Directors is made up by 6 Members: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer.

Term of office: 3 years

Members are partially renewed every year in groups of two. They are nominated and elected by the Members through elections that are held electronically.

Main functions: to execute the Assembly's resolutions, to comply with and enforce the bylaws, to manage and administrate the institution, to decide the admittance of those requesting membership, to summon assemblies, to select staff, establish their salaries, and determine their obligations, to present all the required documentation before the Ordinary General Assembly, to approve methodologies for the development of LACNIC, as well as to approve administration and Internet resource allocation policies.

 
CONTROL ORGAN
This organ oversees the operation of the institution and the actions of the Board of Directors

This commission is in charge of organizing all elections

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
His/Her main functions include:
  • To supervise LACNIC's daily management and operation, as well as the fulfillment of the functions of each department.
  • To facilitate the coordination among different departments.
  • To select and supervise the members of the staff.
  • To participate in the meetings of the Board of Directors having rights equivalent to those of a Director, but without the right to vote.
  • To act as a link between the Board of Directors and the different departments.
