In June 2003, the Civil Organization (which was in formation), CLARA (Latin American Coordination of Advanced Networks) and LACNIC signed an agreement whereby LACNIC would provide the administrative resources needed to manage the funds received by CLARA, as well as billing, collection and payment procedures.

Thus, LACNIC is supporting the start-up of a new regional organization that has, among other objectives, the aim of coordinating the National Academic Networks of Latin America and developing a regional network to interconnect national academic and research networks. This agreement is valid for an initial period of one year, and it is automatically renewable.
